A challenging online multiplayer game set in a fantasy realm trying to build a community.
It's fun, much harder, better player control because of the User Council, and fewer troublemakers.
There are several price levels with correspondingly more features and abilities at each level. The fees are non-refundable and either paid yearly or monthly depending on the level and you choice of subscription. For a complete breakdown on features and benefits, please click here.
There are a couple of reasons. 1. The fee you pay helps cover the costs of running the server; 2. The fact that you have to pay will help keep some of the troublemakers out, making the community more enjoyable; 3. Supports Other-Life and Eternal Lands development.
If a player abuses the game and the community, the no refunds is part of the punishment if they decide to ban him.
We understand what you're saying, and agree with you. That is why we are creating Other-Life. Most games you level up in any or all areas quickly, and the enjoyability of the game comes to an end because there is nothing left to do. Many times, we have only continued to play a game because of the friends we have made along the way. Other-Life will be focused on creating a balance between doing things and being involved in a dynamic community where you can influence the actual game future.
Other-Life is starting its life based on the server code of Eternal Lands. Very quickly you will notice things are different. Entirely different quests will be added, new locations of harvesting, depleting resources, more intelligent creatures and NPC's, and lots more will be coming. We will also be adding new graphics over time as well.
Yes, it is hard. The intent of Other-Life is to make a game that challenges you to work towards your goals, not give you a quick and boring method to 'level up' your character as quickly as possible.
We will be adding methods for you to have some limited control over your character via the website. You can chat, maybe perform some simple tasks, perform trades with players, and other things will be allowed. Also, in the future from within the game, you will have access to different portions of the forums and different bulletin (sic) boards.
Players will be able to buy and sell from other players with in-game cash at some point in the future as long as they are 'near' each other, even if they aren't both online at the same time. Other options are being looked into as well.
TBD.

TBD by the User Council, but the forums account follows the character account, so if you want to keep playing or posting you'd have to get another account.
Currently we accept Paypal, we are looking into other electronic payment systems and other methods.

Do you have a close friend you trust who can pay for you?

Limited macroing will be permitted, in the future additional support will be added to the server to assist in that. The actual details and rules are being worked on.

Initially bots will be permitted only at a higher cost than the Premium Membership (price is TBD). In the future, lower cost bots will be available that are run by the OL server itself.

The OL formulas and requirements for making things aren't the same as Eternal-Lands, and might even be different for you than others. Some aren't even published and you need to learn them either in game, by experimentation, or from another player.

Spawns, resources, and mobs are more variable and less predictable and most of the areas are more dangerous. You'll even find that mobs can level up and wander off to other maps and they eventually will go hunting players.

That is part of the role playing and community aspects we are encouraging. In general many people will want travel with their friends, especially in the tougher areas.

Death is something to be avoided and items get damaged or lost and you lose experience as well.

Player information is not publicly available to try to make the game more fun for more people. You don't even see all of your stats since we track it in a lot more detail then we give to the client.

Those will be getting redeveloped and more lists will be included, but the actual values will not be shown.

We hope it wont. It's intended to attract a different type of player than normally enjoy EL, also development work on O-L will directly help EL.

We have licensed the use of the EL material along with the code, so we have permission to use and distribute for use with O-L.

Additions to EL won't be added right away to O-L, and when they are added, it could easily be very different or with a twist to it.

First, play Eternal-Lands to learn how to do basic play. Then you can talk to OL players to see if you might want to try it out.

Patience, we are in the middle of doing major changes and balancing to meet our needs.

Yes. When you create an account in the forums, you are also setting your characters name in Other-Life as well. This allows for easier PM'ing, as the names are the same.

Your donation to Other-Life will be used to cover costs of resources and development of the game.
