I'd like to propose a change to how names are handled in the server. Currently, when you supply a name an implied wild-card is always there so if the player you want isn't online, it may find a player that starts with the same name.

I'm suggesting that /NAM* with an asterisk at the end would give this same behavior as the current system without the *.

I propose that /NAM. (with a period at the end) always forces an exact match.

What we need to talk about is do we want /NAM act the same as /NAM. or /NAM* ? Both seem to be very valid. This is important since players may often play on both games.

I think this is a great idea.  i like /NAM. personally because it will not use the shift key.

I agree totally with the /NAM. idea.  That has always bugged me when I try to pm someone and get someone else.

I do agree with Infection though.  I like /NAM better.  Easier typing...laziness kicking in.

Yes, yes, yes!

I like /NAM* for the wildcard match.
I like /NAM. for an exact match.
I'd like to see /NAM (with neither) by default be the exact match /NAM.

I frequently use /trin when I'm wanting to PM trinitybot. I check that she's the only trin* online at the time however.

The wildcard would allow you to do /trin* instead without the problem of /trin going to the wrong person.

*shrug*... it may or may not get used.

I figure /trin* and /trin(ctr+Space Bar) to be same number of keypress and using space bar to complete name you can see where it is going :-)

1) Sometimes I don't like the auto-name completion.
2) We don't need to throw something good invented away.
3) I would not use the asterix key because I would need to use shift.

My suggestion: yes, disable the auto-name completion, instead enable it if you hold down shift and press enter at the same time.
This way we don't kill a nice feature but we have more control over it ;)

Support for /NAM* & /NAM. will be going in with the next update. For now /NAM is being left as it is, getting the same results as /NAM*
