As some of you know, I think that the Tab Maps should be maps and not pictures, and the current Alroth Tab Map for the continent is a little to close to a picture. Been paying around with some stuff based on BK's code combined with my continent and came up with something that might be a reasonable compromise for the full continent for now.

Trying for something that looks like a parchment map, but still has enough detail before you click on it to help make sure you have an idea of the continent overall and what map you'll be clicking on. I have gotten some feedback from several people while working on this and gotten positive responses so far.

I have two minor issues, the color of the boats and that snow just seems to white, but I think this is a good starting point for the next version.

Feedback?

I dont mind it at all, its only the continent overview, can still click on the individual maps for more detail as you need. The idea of an actual map looking type is growing on me

However i'd still like the pathways to be slightly more visible

Hi,

I would say that less colour would be better than more colour. And the edges would need to be more defined.

It also depends on if you are shooting for realism or practicality :P

Ugh...the map look like a five years old water color. It has a distracting texture, and none of stylized elements that you would typically see on RPG styled maps. This thing needs to go back to drawing board.

It's not drawn, neither are the current Tab maps.

As for edges, I haven't plays with edge enhancement yet. Part of the reason for more color though is since the continent has to handle cities, swamps, forest, desert, and ice all in one image, leaviong more color then the Tab's do is intended to help there some.

You have to take into account that the era this map would have been drawn and coloured.

The map makers would not have had our resources we have today to actually take a picture of the continent. Nor would they have had the proper tools or paints to make it look more realistic.

Remember, this is drawn on paper by hand and from memory unless someone is actually travelling the continent and mapping it as they go.

Also, the colouring would have been what was available in the day.

Looking at ebattleon's post and images within, looks similar to older overview map, just ours not being so defined, am good either way as its just the overview, it should feel more middle earth type which currently and even previously it doesnt. Is just an overview anyway, nobody pushing for actual change to the game :D can still click each individual map as/when needed. Barely any one will be focusing on that.... so yeah is not important, maybe  keep this as a side project for now untill more things are worked out. :D :) <3 :D :)

If possible I would darken the buildings as these are important features that people are interested in. Also roads and paths.

The red is confusing as sometimes it is passable farmlands and sometimes impassable mountain, IMO lighten that red for farm lands and the mountains.

I will point out the the roads in the snow are very hard to see, and in the DL maps there are many spots getting flagged as a road in yellow because the color just happen to be close enough.

The blue X player mark location does not match with the Big map, eg, VL shows me near edge on land, Big map shows me in water
