Map editor
http://www.eternal-l...s/mapeditor.zip
Extract the file inside your OL folder
* note: overwrite files when asked
* extract them in the first OL folder, don't make a separate folder inside the OL main folder

After installing you have to download this Missing font and place it in your *Other-Lifetextures folder.

Is anyone else interested in making maps?

I could make a nice tutorial that explains basics AND upload a test/tutorial map for you to view

Let me know, if its worth doing

Yes tutorial is worth doing.  When I get bored with leveling... another 4-6 weeks? I might give it a go.

scarr, did you do this on linux or windows? because im trying to get mapmaker working on windows and its blatantly tells me that there is not textures file...
so i can run the map maker with no proper graphics in it... but OL runs perfectly with all the textures.

or is this something i must see L/Radu about?

If I remember properly, the mapmaker must be run from the same directory as EL/OL, maybe that's your problem?

Ive got it in the same directory, in the first otherlife one (not the second one, the one with folders for main/test in it)
but its that texture folder that i cant find anywhere.

If all fails i guess i'll try again on getting ol to work on linux and then try mapmaker with that.

It needs to be in the same folder as the OL executable.

Ok i got a few questions now
  • Is there a way to import a smaller map onto a bigger map size ( i made something i quite like on a map thats too smal :s)
  • Im not really clear on how to set walkable tiles/no walkable tiles and having them raised to the places where i have put things.

Do, you can't import from one map size to another. Mostly because the editor simply doesn't have that option. To my knowledge of the map format, changing the size would simple be a factor changing a couple numbers near the beginning of the file.

Walkable/not walkable is all connected to setting the Height of each spot. The lowest height you can set is always unwalkable, otherwise you can walk form one spot to the next as long as the height is within two increments (I can't remember how the map editor represents the possible heights for the scale).

The preferred map size for OL maps is the size of PL.

Tried to find the spot to edit map sizes, and cant :s
Also, how do i rotate objects on the "z axis". Easy enough to move in z axis, rotate in X & Y, but things like gangplanks that i need to rotate on the z axis to make them act how they would normally, and its irritating that theres nothing in any guides ive looked at about it...

And for now im stuck on quite a small map as well lol.

Also i got all these tiles and have tried different heights to make them walkable, and still cant get it to realise that any of my raised tiles are walkable

I said that the map editor does NOT let you edit the sizes. My comment of editing them was related to the saved format.
